About the Author
Clifford R. Backman is Professor of History at Boston University. He is the author of The Worlds of Medieval Europe, Second Edition (OUP, 2008), and The Decline and Fall of Medieval Sicily: Politics, Religion, and Economy in the Reign of Frederick III, 1296-1337 (1995).

Great textbook

I needed this textbook for an online college course. The book itself is written very well. It is informative but also very entertaining. For the history buff, it provides interesting and informative facts while providing excellent visual learning aides, such as maps and photos. For the less enthusiastic history readers, the chapters are not long, almost every page has some sort of picture or map (so that means less reading), and the book is written in an entertaining and engaging way.
I also must give Amazon props for their packaging. I ordered books through my university's online bookstore and had them shipped to my home. When I received them, the packaging was torn and the books were worn on the sides that had been exposed to the elements due to faulty packaging. I was apprehensive about purchasing heavy textbooks from Amazon, but I was pleasantly surprised. The textbook was in great condition and packaged very well, in a box (instead of the horrible mailer bag that my university used). I will now be purchasing all of my textbooks from Amazon. Thank you so much for you exceptional service, as always.

Great only to follow as an outline

Maybe it's the fact I don't prefer history but this book didn't make the subject easier to understand. I felt like it missed a lot of important information and all the history teachers who used it had to ALWAYS add plenty of information. The book, however, is really good for an outline for a series of events.
